After inspection by The Norwegian Data Protection Authority the wording on handling the personal identification number (fødselsnummer) in the National borrower register (http://lanekortet.no/brosjyre.htm) has been altered to:
The personal identification number is necessary for unique identification of persons, and is transferred via an encrypted communication channel between the central borrower register and the local library.
